JASMINE

2013 | QUEENS, NEW YORK

Jasmine Kok is a petite girl with a big voice. Inspired by the likes of Celine Dion, Whitney Houston and Christina Aguilera, the Malaysian-born singer is rooted in both the Chinese and English languages. Her soft and dreamy vocals evoke a soothing melody, one that combines the genres of ballad, pop and jazz.

She strives to find the middle ground between Asian and Western pop through the technical and emotional aspects of her music. While she writes her own songs, she also enjoys adding an acoustic twist to existing ones on the radio. Jasmine’s own music is laced with a slightly darker tone because it reflects her journey as she leaves the shell of insecurity behind.

“I see, or I hope to see that my music will change and grow as I discover the diversity of New York City. I want to create accessible music that supports greater causes apart from my career. And when I am ready, I would like to contribute my experience to Chinese pop music.”
